靈感源自著名諾貝爾文學獎得主馬奎斯的短篇小說集《異鄉客》(Strange Pilgrims)，《人在旅途灑淚匙》開放劇場空間，讓文字、人聲、現場音樂及影像，跟舞蹈展開一場糅合魔幻、傷感、奇異與瘋狂的舞蹈劇場。

一九八二年諾貝爾文學獎得主賈西亞．馬奎斯(Gabriel Garcia Marquez)一向以魔幻寫實的筆觸見長，作品暢銷全球，包括《百年孤寂》及《愛在瘟疫蔓延時》等長篇小說。《異鄉客》由十二篇短篇小說結集而成，描繪流落在歐洲各城的拉丁美洲人所遭遇的種種禍福。十二篇小說在內容上並不關連，卻都表現出馬奎斯一貫強烈的視覺意象；其魔幻寫實的筆調，脫離我們習慣的理性邏輯思考，鉤勒出震撼人心的豐富色彩與意象。

His works have achieved significant critical acclaim and he is most notably for his literary style of magical realism. The short stories collection Strange Pilgrims depicts the life encounters of Latin Americans in European cities. Each of the twelve loosely-related stories touches on the theme of dislocation, and the strangeness of life in a foreign land.
